What inspections will be done?

Inspections are performed to check compliance with conditions of consent, and legislation. The required inspections will be shown on the Decision Notice.

For a new house, or addition to a house, the following inspections are undertaken:

  • Foundation and excavation (before the footings are poured);
  • Slab (before the concrete is poured);
  • Frame (before the lining is fixed); and
  • Final (when all aspects of the building work are completed).

Patios and deck construction usually require a foundation inspection and a final inspection.

A final inspection only is required for private garages, carports and sheds.

Swimming pools may require two inspections. Most concrete pools require an inspection of the fencing before water is placed in the pool, and a final inspection. An above ground pool will generally only need a final inspection.

The person carrying out the building work is to notify Blue Tongue Building Approvals when an inspection is due. This may be done by phone or fax, and will be undertaken within 24hrs of the request. To download the inspection form, please click here inspection form.

A final inspection certificate will be sent to the owner nominated on the application form, and a copy will be given to the local council at the completion of the building work.
